The need for deep tissue massage
There is a lack of oxygen and nutrients in the stressed out or over worked muscles and this leads to inflammation which helps in accumulating the toxins in the muscle tissue. When a deep tissue massage is given, it loosens these muscle tissues, releases toxins from the muscles and helps in improving the circulation of blood and oxygen through the body.
In other words, the deep tissue massage helps in unblocking the fibers of a muscle by releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, through removal of toxins and causing relaxation and smoothening out of the muscles.

How does deep tissue massage work?
Once the initial consultation with the therapist is made, a customized plan for you is devised which will be followed over the next few sessions. The therapy plan will be unique depending on your physical condition and body requirements. If you are suffering from a chronic condition or a sports injury or stress, the therapist can target the muscle groups involved and you will feel refreshed and without any pain once the massage is over.

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of the muscular tissue. It works by releasing the chronic patterns of tension in the body. The deep tissue massage comprises of slow massage strokes and the deep finger pressure on the contracted areas by either following the muscles or moving across the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

The deep tissue massage helps in destroying and removing the scar tissue. It concentrates on specific areas and may leave some sores as an after effect right after the massage. But the soreness goes away in a day or two leaving long lasting effects.

The increased blood flow following a massage reduces the inflammation to alleviate pain. The deep tissue massage also breaks down the adhesion restoring natural movements.

How is a massage session like?
Deep tissue massage is relaxing and you feel good while getting it done. It is beneficial to your health. The deep tissue massage is both corrective and therapeutic in nature. The deep tissue massage session is about 50 minutes long generally. The treatment is done on a massage table on bare skin.

During the massage session the therapist applies the pressure by using his hands, elbows, fingertips, knuckles or forearms in an attempt to stimulate the muscles and breaking away the knots. The massage is slow paced and hence optimal amount of care is given to every affected muscle in the body. The client is asked to take deep breaths as this supplies the muscles with oxygen and eases any discomfort.

The benefits of deep tissue massage
The deep tissue massage focuses the deeper tissues and muscles in the body and relieves pain. Some of its benefits are;

Any special precautions
Deep tissue massage helps in releasing many toxins in the body and drinking lots of water after a massage session helps in eliminating or flushing out these toxins from the body. During the massage is being given, the client is asked to take deep breaths. Once the deep tissue massage has been given, it is very important for the client to remain hydrated. Certain experts also recommend an Epsom salt bath to help in removing the toxins from your body and alleviating the soreness you feel as a result of massage.

Any side effects
The deep tissue massage focuses on the specific regions on the body and may cause some amount of soreness in the body once the session is over. But this is alleviated in 2 to 3 days after the massage is done. The toxins should be flushed out with a lot of fluid intake otherwise if the toxins accumulate in the body for long periods of time, it may cause disease.
