Women of the present generation tend to flock for the artificial and harmful skin and hair products available in the market, instead of using the old technique of homemade remedies to improve the conditions of their skin and hair. Well most of the young women waste a large sum of money on cosmetics and creams instead of just spending some time and following the convention followed by their grandmothers, that is, to use herbs on skin and hair to improve their conditions.

Licorice as an herb often works wonders when used in combination with other herbs. The root of Licorice works like a charm when used in its original form on skin. The root would make your skin clearer and fairer instead of damaging your skin like artificial cosmetics do. Along with this the herb if used in its original form or in combination with other herbs helps to reduce oiliness on hair.

Licorice Root Extract
Licorice root extract is one of the most common herbal ingredients found in most of the cosmetics used by you. The root extracts are also used in treating a variety of skin diseases due to its anti- oxidant, anti- inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-carcinogenic, and antiviral properties. The primary anti- oxidant and anti- inflammatory compounds found in licorice are saponins, flavonoids, glycyrrizinic, and glycosides- glycyrrhizing acid.

A recent study has shown that a combination of licorice root extract with retinoic acid and betamethasone resulted in a brilliant skin lightening response in 70% of all patients. The topical application of glabridin repressed UVB- induced pigmentation and erythema in the skin of animals, mainly guinea pigs.

The effective extract is made from small, rough and brown licorice root, which usually tastes and smells like candy but is not actually sweet when tasted.

Is the use of Licorice fruitful?

On skin:
Licorice root being an ayurvedic medicine is used in the making of serum in portions. Licorice root serums work on all skin types, be it oily skin, irritated or mature and uneven skin. Its use leaves the skin unharmed unlike other cosmetics. Before buying any product for any external skin use you must make sure to know which are the ingredients added to the mixture of the product, and whether they are safe enough to use or not.

Licorice as a natural element has a mild smoothening and brightening action. Used in serums, spot treatments, cleansers, and moisturizers, it helps in the fading of hyper- pigmentation and sun damage for all skin tones in a safe manner. It blocks melanin production to prevent the formation of hyper-pigmentation. Its usage leaves the skin brighter, hydrated and clearer. The root extracts are potent for red, acne-prone skin as well as for dull complexions and dehydrated skin. The root also contains a particular compound that works as a gentle sunscreen. It acts like a shield and protects the skin from UVA/ UVB rays to keep your skin bright and fresh forever.

Licorice brightens skin appearance, and when it is used in combination with Gigawhite in serums it brightening the look of your skin, that is, it adds a natural glow to your skin. The combination of Gigawhite and Licorice root are seen in many cosmetics, such as skin moisturizers, skin cleansers etc. Licorice as a herb is also useful in treating dangerous skin diseases like eczema and other dermatological diseases that can’t even be treated by doctors.

On hair:
Licorice root is rich in choline, fat, protein, flavonoid, phytoestrogens, B- complex vitamins, phosphorus, potassium, essential oil, and amines. It is because of such elements and compounds that the root has been found potent in promoting not only the scalp health but also the entire hair. Licorice extracts are also available in tablets and capsules. These tablets and capsules are taken to reduce hair loss and improve hair growth.
